As a church, we believe God has given a mandate to use the tools in our hand to promote widespread awareness of children in foster care and to impart the importance of families opening their hearts and homes.  We are committed to lobbying on behalf of children’s rights within the foster care system and changing legislation. We see a growing epidemic of discarded children; therefore we are convinced that the heart of a nation must reflect the value God places on even the smallest of citizens.

Pastor Leisa Nelson

Her heart’s cry for over twenty years has been the ministry of adoption and foster care both on a domestic and international level. The road to the fulfillment of these dreams has not been an easy one. Months turned to years with much heartache and waiting involved, including a traumatic fall-through adoption, when Leisa realized God had something bigger in mind. “Sometimes God doesn’t necessarily want to give things to us in order to fulfill desires; He wants a vessel He can get things through!”

Leisa recalls one day in her kitchen after an intense time of prayer, asking God this heartfelt question. “Is there not a hope?” It was at that moment she received a call from Bundle of Hope Adoption Agency in Jacksonville, FL of a potential placement. Her faithful stewardship of this vision proved fruitful with the opportunity to adopt a precious little girl aptly named Hope Annaleis. The love of God manifested through this adoption has transformed the life of a baby who others thought would be affected by the residue of a crack-cocaine addicted biological mother. As an advocate for orphans, Leisa counts it an absolute honor to live out what God is calling the body of Christ to do and a privilege to share her story. This personal testimony of adoption speaks volumes of God’s power to overcome even the most hopeless of circumstances.

As a result, HOPE’s Treasure was birthed in January of 2007 focusing on adoption and family counseling as a means to connect Christ-centered families with children who are in desperate need of homes to call their own. It is through this program and many other arenas that she is making an impact for the kingdom of God.

Religion that God our Father considers pure and faultless is this, to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. ~ James 1:27 NIV

HOPE'S TREASURE is a Foster Care and DHR support ministry with a desire to:

  • To see the church arise and mobilize to fulfill the responsibility of caring for those who have been orphaned and widowed, as laid out in James 1:27.
  • To dispel fears among potential foster care/adoptive parents through personal testimonies of how we as Christians possess the authority in Christ to overcome every challenge presented from the damage of rejection
  • To serve and honor the Department of Human Resources (DHR) at a local level and recognize their contribution to these social issues while pursuing change at the state level.
